New Edmonton Slogan?

For years now there has been a lot of debate in the city of Edmonton, Alberta as to whether or not they should change their slogan from “City Of Champions” to something, anything else… Well I learnt an interesting factoid about Edmonton today and I think I’ve found Edmonton’s new slogan.

I’m not going to get into the details as to why people feel the slogan should change. I can see both sides of it and know that even if the City decided to change the slogan, no one would like the new one anyways. Personally I think the whole thing is silly and that’s part of the reason why I think this new slogan is something we can all buy into.

In one of Alan Cross‘s posts today, he shared some interesting facts about radio stations that switch to an all Christmas format starting as early as Nov 1 and lasting up to Dec 27, and the impact they have on radio ratings and music in general. The factoid that stood out the most?

When it comes to which city plays Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” during the holiday season (i.e. the radio holiday season Nov 1 – Dec 27), Edmonton reigns supreme! We even beat out Toronto.

Edmonton is the Mariah Carey “All I Want For Christmas” Capital of Canada! And I think THAT should be our new slogan…

Edmonton: Mariah Carey’s Christmas Song Capital Of Canada

THAT’s something to be proud of!

(Side note: WTF Edmonton…no wonder so many people complain once radio stations start switching to a Christmas format in Nov. It’s not too early…it’s too much Mariah Carey)
