No Squamish???

I had feeling we’d see a handful of different music festivals shutting down or cancelling this year. Between the low Canadian dollar, (and most American artists wanting to get paid in US funds), our current economy and just the fact that there seemed to be new festivals popping up every year, I had a feeling 2016 would be the tipping point and we would start seeing some music festivals shutting down.

Squamish was one that I thought would last and survive the tipping point. In 2015 they attracted over 120,000 attendees, generating over 30 million dollars in economic spinoffs. Sadly, it was announced today that there will be no Squamish Music Festival in 2016. No reason was given as to why, which I’m sure will lead to tons of speculation and rumours.  For more on this check out the article in VancityBuzz
